Edgewater Beach temporarily closed for Rail/Barge Facility Construction

Post Date:08/22/2005

Everett -- Starting August 28, Edgewater Beach will be closed to the public to pave the road to Edgewater Beach, which is the first step in the construction of the Rail/Barge Transfer Facility.

The paving is part of a dust and mud suppression program that is in response to concerns identified by the city of Mukilteo. The beach, which is located near the Mukilteo Tank Farm within Everett city limits, will remain closed until further notice.

The beach was originally expected to close in May 2005, but delays in the timeline provided beach-goers with an additional summer of use. The Port will notify residents if the beach can be re-opened during the construction, but in light of the neighboring construction projects, such as the new Sounder platform, the closure may be longer than required just for the Rail/Barge Facility construction. The Rail/Barge Facility will be used to transport oversized aerospace parts, among other cargos, by rail car to Paine Field.

As part of the project, the Port of Everett will restore Edgewater Beach, and construct an enhanced public access area. The facility is expected to be complete in summer 2006.
