Cooking and flower demonstrations offered for the first time

Post Date:06/30/2005

Sunday afternoons at Port Gardner Landing are bustling with activity now that the Farmer's Market at the Port of Everett is open for its 12th season.market4

The market is held on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 1600 West Marine View Drive, three blocks north of Naval Station Everett. Vendors proudly feature locally grown produce, organic foods, plants, flowers and homemade arts & crafts.

"The Farmer's Market is always a huge success, and is well attended by the community," Port Commissioner Don Hopkins said. "The port is pleased to see the ongoing effort to keep the waterfront busy in the summer."

Overlooking Port Gardner Bay and the Everett Marina, the market offers 60-plus vendors who set up each weekend at the port's Marina Promenade. It is also located near the public access dock, allowing boaters to tie up and come join in on the fun.

Those in charge of the event are trying out some new attractions this year, including cooking and flower demonstrations put on by local chefs and florists. The first flower demonstration will be held this Sunday at 3 p.m. The cooking demos are scheduled for the second Sunday of each month.

"The market is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the Everett waterfront," said Tone Hutton, the market's director. "If you've never been down to the Farmer's Market, this is the summer to drop by and check it out - It's Everett's best kept secret."

Other items sold at the market include: herbs, honey, baked goods and homemade crafts. Snacks and coffee are provided for market customers, and admission is free. Picnic tables are also on site, and "ready to eat" food is available to purchase.

Amenities within walking distance include several restaurants and cafes, as well as shops and the Inn at Port Gardner. For further information, contact Tone Hutton at (425) 921-3392, or visit
