Mukilteo Fishing Pier Closure
The Mukilteo public access pier, owned and maintained by the Port of Everett and located just east of the Mukilteo Ferry Dock, will be closed immediately due to the discovery of severe deteriorated piling supporting the dock.
During a recent routine inspection, Port staff found several support piling missing and several more exhibiting signs of severe distress. Port Engineer John Klekotka said "The missing and weakened piles are all in a localized area representing a serious safety concern for the public. Port staff has recommended to the Port Commission that the dock be closed immediately for repairs."
The Port Commission has authorized the temporary closure of the facility until a further assessment can be performed and repairs can be made. Port Commission President, Jim Shaffer, has asked Port staff to look at ways to keep the dock closure to a minimum. Due to fisheries restrictions, it is likely that repairs to the dock cannot begin until mid-summer, 2002. The repair work is expected to take several weeks.
The Port apologizes for any citizen inconvenience during this time and appreciates the Public’s understanding in making this a safe facility for local citizens to enjoy.
